Naivasha has conference venues for almost any group, from a 9-seat boardroom to a 500-seat ballroom, and published day packages start at around KSh 2,000 per person. The big lakeside resorts on Moi South Lake Road suit large conventions with leisure on site. Smaller venues closer to town are usually cheaper, quicker to reach from Nairobi and easier for day delegates.

We run one of those venues, The Gem Hotel, so we have a stake in this. That is why this guide sticks to figures each venue publishes itself, tells you where we are not the right fit, and says so plainly when a venue does not publish a price.

Key takeaways

  • Largest: Enashipai’s Entumo ballroom seats 500 theatre style, the biggest published capacity in Naivasha.
  • Cheapest published day rates: Naivasha West Beach Camp (KSh 2,000 half day, KSh 2,500 full day) and WRTI (KSh 3,480 full day).
  • Most big resorts don’t publish prices. Enashipai, Sopa and Simba quote on request.
  • Location matters for cost. Many lakeside venues sit along Moi South Lake Road, a drive out of town, so budget for shuttles. Highway venues near town avoid that.
  • The Gem Hotel has 7 halls for 9 to 100 people, sits on the Naivasha–Nakuru highway at the Delamere interchange, and publishes its prices: KSh 3,500 full day, KSh 9,200 full board.

The venues, one by one

Enashipai Resort & Spa: best for conventions of 150 to 500+

Enashipai’s Entumo Conference Centre is the largest published conference space in Naivasha. Six rooms open into a pillarless ballroom that seats 500 theatre style or 234 classroom style, and the resort also has a 700 m² lakeview tent for bigger gatherings. Smaller rooms include Onguan and Uni (150 theatre each), Nabo and Hare (50 each) and a 19-seat executive boardroom.

Good to know: rates are by quotation. Its published group terms ask for a 25% deposit on confirmation, 50% a month before and the final 25% two weeks before, which is useful to know when planning cash flow.

Muthu Lake Naivasha Country Club: best for large groups wanting a classic lakeside setting

This long-established lakeside hotel lists its Acacia room for up to 300 attendees, plus smaller spaces including the Hippo Lounge, the Kiboko room and the Pelican Board Room. It also offers its gardens for team building and outdoor events. Rates are on request.

Morendat Training & Conference Centre: best for residential training

Owned by Kenya Pipeline Company and opened in 2007, Morendat was built for corporate training. It has six halls, from the 150-seat Maasai Mara Hall down to rooms for 30 to 60, plus 56 guest rooms, a business centre and a lounge bar. It sits on Moi North Lake Road, about 12 km from Naivasha town and 3.4 km off the Nakuru highway. Rates are on request.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort: best for mid-sized lakeside meetings

Sopa has four conference areas across two separate complexes, seating 24 to 120 theatre style. Each room has its own breakaway area for tea, and the resort lists PA systems, projectors and screens, flip charts, Wi-Fi and stationery. Sopa does not publish conference rates.

The Gem Hotel: best for groups up to 100 who want easy access and clear prices

This is us, so judge us on the facts. The Gem sits on the Naivasha–Nakuru highway at the Delamere interchange, about a 10-minute walk from Buffalo Mall. We have seven halls, each set up U-shape, classroom or theatre style:

HallCapacity
Emerald100
Sapphire50
Diamond35
Bronze20
Gold15
Amber10
Board Room9

Every hall has a projector and screen, PA system, microphones, Wi-Fi and backup power. We publish our packages:

PackagePrice per personWhat’s included
Breakfast meetingKSh 2,500Buffet breakfast, tea or coffee, water and stationery
Half day conferenceKSh 3,000One tea break with snacks, buffet lunch with a soft drink, water, sweets and stationery
Full day conferenceKSh 3,50010am and 4pm tea with snacks, buffet lunch with a soft drink, 500 ml water morning and afternoon, sweets, mints and stationery
Half board conferenceKSh 8,000Full day package plus bed and breakfast in a single room
Full board conferenceKSh 9,200Full day package plus buffet dinner and bed and breakfast in a single room

We have 30 rooms, so we can host a residential group of up to about 30 in single rooms, or more if delegates share. We can arrange transport from Nairobi at an extra charge.

Where we’re not the right fit: we have no outdoor space for team building on site, so outdoor activities happen off-site at places like Hell’s Gate or the lake. Our largest hall seats 100, so for bigger groups look at Enashipai, Muthu or Morendat. And we are not on the lakeshore; Lake Naivasha is about a 13-minute drive away.

Naivasha West Beach Camp: best budget option for groups up to 50

Naivasha West Beach Camp is a lakeside camp near Lake Oloiden with a tented conference hall for up to 50 people and some of the lowest published rates in Naivasha: KSh 2,000 half day, KSh 2,500 full day, KSh 5,500 half board and KSh 7,000 full board, per person per day.

Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI): best for government and NGO budgets

The state wildlife research institute publishes a day conference package at KSh 3,480 per adult. It includes two tea breaks with snacks, fresh juice, two bottles of water, a branded pen and pad, a flip chart, an LCD projector, Wi-Fi, a buffet lunch and outdoor space for team building. A public price makes procurement simpler.

Also worth a call

Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge markets itself for conferences and team retreats but does not publish room capacity or rates, so ask for a quote.

How to choose the right conference venue in Naivasha

Start with three questions: how many people, how much per head, and how far they will travel. Those narrow the list fast.

By group size

  • Under 20 (board meetings, strategy sessions): almost every venue works. Pick on quiet, comfort and price. A dedicated boardroom beats a big hall set up small.
  • 20 to 100 (workshops, trainings, team retreats): the widest choice, including Sopa, Morendat, West Beach Camp (up to 50) and The Gem.
  • 100 to 300: Muthu Lake Naivasha Country Club, Morendat (150) or Enashipai.
  • 300 and above: Enashipai is the only venue publishing that capacity.

By budget

Published full-day packages run from about KSh 2,500 to KSh 3,500 per person. For a residential conference, full board runs from about KSh 7,000 to KSh 9,200 per person per night where venues publish it. For resorts that quote on request, ask for a written quote per person per day so you can compare like with like, and ask about seasonal group rates.

By location: highway or lakeside?

Near town and the highwayOn the lake (Moi South Lake Road)
ProsQuicker from Nairobi; easy for day delegates; shops, banks and pharmacies within walking distance; often cheaperLake views; wildlife and boat rides on the doorstep; more of a getaway feel; space for outdoor team building
ConsNo lake view; outdoor activities need transportFurther from town; shuttles add cost and time; fewer services nearby

If your agenda is mostly sessions with a short outing, a venue near the highway saves time and money. If the retreat itself is the reward, the lakeside resorts are worth the extra drive.

Worked example: what a 2-day conference for 30 really costs

Say you’re bringing 30 staff for a two-day workshop with one night away. They arrive on day 1, stay the night, and finish after lunch on day 2. Here is what that costs on published rates, before transport.

The Gem HotelNaivasha West Beach Camp
Day 1: full board conference (sessions, meals, dinner, room)30 × KSh 9,200 = KSh 276,00030 × KSh 7,000 = KSh 210,000
Day 2: full day conference30 × KSh 3,500 = KSh 105,00030 × KSh 2,500 = KSh 75,000
TotalKSh 381,000KSh 285,000
Per delegateKSh 12,700KSh 9,500

The camp is cheaper on paper, and if budget is the deciding factor, it is a fair choice. The difference buys you a single hotel room for every delegate, a 50-seat indoor hall instead of a tent, and a location on the highway rather than near Lake Oloiden, which can cut shuttle time and cost.

Two things change the sums quickly. Transport from Nairobi is about 90 km each way, so get a coach quote before you compare. Room sharing matters too: our full board rate is per person in a single room, so ask about twin sharing if your team is happy to pair up.

If your group is bigger than 30, note that The Gem has 30 rooms. Larger residential groups can share rooms, or split into residential and day delegates (the day package is KSh 3,500).

Questions to ask before you book

Whichever venue you choose, these questions stop surprises on the invoice:

  1. Is the price per person per day, and does it include VAT and levies?
  2. What exactly is in the package? Tea breaks, lunch, water, stationery, projector, PA system and Wi-Fi are often bundled. Breakout rooms sometimes cost extra.
  3. What is the room’s capacity in my layout? A room for 100 theatre style may seat far fewer in classroom or U-shape.
  4. Is there backup power? Power cuts happen, and a generator keeps your sessions running.
  5. For residential groups: single or shared rooms, and is there a single supplement?
  6. What are the deposit and cancellation terms? Get them in writing.
  7. Can the venue arrange transport and activities? One booking is easier than three.

For reference, here are The Gem’s terms. A confirmed booking needs payment upfront, and if plans change:
